Lagarde, a bride finally!

Before yesterday, likable filly Lagarde had raced 11 times for 6 seconds and
2 thirds. Therefore her trip to Orange for a 1000m maiden was a cautiously
optimistic one.

Punters were not deterred however, backing the Brad Widdup trained 3
year-old in from $1.45 to $1.35, and they were vindicated with a widening
2.6 length victory that never looked in doubt.

After beginning well jockey Koby Jennings elected to let Lagarde go to the
lead under her own steam. From there onwards the races was hers for the
keeping and to the eye never looked to get out of third gear.

Encouragingly, Lagarde recorded a faster time than the Class 2 1000m race
later in the day, indicating that with the win behind her, we might not have
to wait as long for her next one.
