Dark Confidant jet-propelled at Cranbroune

Pierro filly Dark Confidant has suffered from a bit of bad luck, and despite once again drawing the very outside barrier, she came with a jet-propelled finish to take out the 1400m Maiden at Cranbourne, defeating the older horses.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes said “It’s fantastic to get this win today because we think she will be a really nice filly over a distance. We think she’s up to city class over the spring.”

“We think a race like the 2000m G3 Ethereal Stakes might suit. We’ve always had a good opinion of her at home.”

She only won by a narrow margin but jockey Regan Bayliss sees a lot of promise, especially up in distance. “I think you’ll see an even better turn of foot once she gets up over those longer distances,” he said.

A Magic Millions purchase for JHB Syndications, Dark Confidant will now head to the Group 2 1600m Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Saturday 6th October, which should prove to be an ideal preparation race for the aforementioned Ethereal Stakes, and who knows, perhaps the VRC Oaks from there. Given that another daughter of Pierro, Pinot, won that historic race last year, maybe it’s not such a grand plan after all!
